I have an induction for a childcare course, my assessor said I need to do tests and she will be using an MP3 player, does anyone know what this is?

I was in a flap and on a mobile phone, so didn't ask.

I am scared. What is she going to get me to do?

Its a way of playing back music/sound. Or she might be recording you.

Sorry Tigger yes I know what the MP3 does, I want to know what she is going to be asking me.

is it for an nvq? we had to do a basic english test. i think it's just to make sure they set the right pace for you.

Fimbo · 16/03/2009 13:49

Yes for NVQ. God I am crapping myself. I don't want to go

my nvq inductions were quite fun once we'd all go to know each other. really don't worry!

I am doing NVQ 3 in childcare and they use an mp3 player to record things for evidence. Mostly me talking about a subject. For example my assessor recorded her questioning me on child protection. The tests she is refering to are basic literacy and numeracy tests. They are written tests. They are not too scary and just check you have the basic skills to enable you to complete the written work for the course. HTH.

It's one to one, so just me and the assessor. Was it easy?

Oh dear guess I need to get my backside off here and start swotting up.

I thought the numeracy one was a bit more tricky than the literacy one but then I haven't done any maths like that since I took my GCSEs many years ago. I would say it was basic GCSE level maths. It was fine honestly, I was surprised at what came flooding back.

eek. Oh god, I really don't want to go. I feel sick at the thought of it, I haven't done tests and stuff since school. I really am crap at this type of thing, I get nervous and jittery.

The assessor originally told me she had forms for me to fill in and I would take a couple of hours, she called me today to see if I could change days and this is when she told me about these tests. I was in ignorant bliss up until that point. I thought it was just form filling.

Please don't worry about it. The absolute worst that can happen is that following the tests the assessor suggests you do some basic skills work along with your NVQ. They offered me the chance to do the basic english and maths skills even though I did fine on the tests. I declined because I'm lazy and didn't want to do extra work. It's nothing you can revise for really and it really isn't that bad.

Thank you Popperdoodles.
