Would you worry if a piece of work was too short?

It is supposed to be 1500 but is about 1230

Is that Wa-ay too short or might I get away with it?

Have you included everything you are meant to, or everything that you could?

livinginadreamworld · 25/01/2009 16:23

plus or minus 10% is the norm... so 1350 would be okay.... i have handed in less, and been told it's too little but not penalized on marking. if you are positive that you have written all that u need to write then u will be fine! - i have previously received excellent marks for putting everything needed into so few words... honestly don't stress over it, few lecturers are going to count every word!

Nellycake · 25/01/2009 16:25

10% either way is the guidance - depending on what course you're doing, you can be marked down.

No, the marker is unlikely to count the words but they'll have a good idea if you're significantly under.

muppetgirl · 25/01/2009 16:29

I would take another look and see if there are any points you have missed. If not then have a look at your intro/conclusion are they adequate?

I would say they had set 1500 for a reason...

sorry!

livinginadreamworld · 25/01/2009 16:31

nellycake is right, they will know if you are significantly under, but if you are SURE that is all you can write then so be it. saying that, if you can find another 120 words.. all the better!

KatyMac · 25/01/2009 16:31

I think the conclusion is missing tbh - I can't seem to find one (iyswim)

The question is
"Write a short piece reflecting on your experience of the course so far, and the evidence you have gathered about ?where you are now?. Think about this in terms of what you have discovered about your preferences for different management topics, and what you believe to be your strengths and weaknesses as a learner.

Write a further paragraph to say which of the management topics you have studied in part 3 seem to be important for your current workplace practice (choose more than one if relevant). Give reasons for your answer.

Using the information about yourself and your learning AND your ideas about what might be important for you at work, concluding your essay by identifying an area of management knowledge which you would like to work on for your end of course assessment. Give reasons for your choice. "

TBH I think there isn't much of an introduction either

I think I have 3 short essays rather than one long one

I am so bad at this

OP posts:
muppetgirl · 25/01/2009 17:35

Right 3 short essays are fine, you need a linking paragraph/couple of sentences to link them together and there you go!

A topic sentence is equally as good at the begining of each paragraph.

KatyMac · 25/01/2009 17:59

I am working on it...'tis hard

leothelioness · 26/01/2009 01:35

try to connnect the three section of the essay so that they read well together you will have different points but use linking words and sentences to show how one idea lead on to another. Remember the conclusion is not a place to add new ideas just to bring together what you have alreay stated. The 10percent rule hold for most courses and you may get penalised if you are below this try reading your work outload and see how you can make it flow more smoothly and where you need to add some information to emphaisie a point or add something you missed out. Good luck
