Is this a total cop out or a sensible decision?

I am doing a level 1 OU course & not managing very well.

I have been ill off and on for over 12 weeks it finishes in March. I had intended to start my next course in Feb but as I am doing so badly on this one I am thinking about postponing it until October.

I really want to do it but I am worried that if I can't even manage to do a 30 pt course I won't manage a 60 pt one.

Am I being a wuss or making the sensible decision?

Sounds sensible to me. Why do you think its a cop out? If you have been ill you wont be at your peak efficiency.

KatyMac · 10/01/2009 15:50

It just seems a ridiculous amount of time to be ill

And it means I'm not following what I had intended

It sounds like a sensible idea to me. You can't help being ill and it sounds as though you would be even more stressed about the course if you did it in March than you would be if you started it in October.

Take a break and don't be so hard on yourself.

I guess so

I think I am just having galloping guilt atm - being ill lets everyone down

are you in a rush?

KatyMac · 10/01/2009 16:35

There is no reason for me to be in a rush

I guess I am used to just 'going for' things - I haven't been ill like this for years & I guess I resent it

sorry i didn't get back sooner - i wasn't being flippant.

i think you need to relax about things. do things at a pace that suit your life, your health and your family. there is no shame in that. that is the sensible option.

it took me many years to get from no qualifications to degree

KatyMac · 11/01/2009 12:23

I didn't think you were - I guess what you said makes sense

I need to be there by 2015 so I have a way to go before I am short of time (IYSWIM) & I have 90 points already

You are right & I had come round to that decision already hence the question really - I needed affirmation that I'm being sensible & not being lazy or copping out.

& I guess I'm not

That's what the OU is for though - so you can study at a pace that suits you, in a way that suits you and you don't have to beat yourself up about not managing to do 120 credits in a year like a full-time student or finish your degree in X amount of time.

If you can't manage 60 then you can't manage it. Feel proud of yourself for doing 30 and being ill!

Or do it all in a mad rush because you forgot it was due in?
