I'm seriously thinking along these lines - know it is a long shot but ....

A good friend of mine went to medical school in her thirties. She is now 50 and has been practicing as an anesthesiologist for over 10 years now. She is very happy that she did it.

pearleyes-
I'm thinking the same thing though wondering if I have left it too late - not sure whether it is possible to get through medical school without neglecting my kids who are used to having their sahm running after them? Think I will regret it if I don't try though....

Are you working at the mo? Why do you want to be a doctor?

thegrowlygus · 22/01/2009 21:56

I have a friend who whilst at med school (as a graduate) started her own company that helps mature students with entrance to medical school and doing a medical degree.

Indeed looking on amazon she also seems to have written a book about it. (how do these people find the time?!!)

If you want the details then drop me a line kpotts at hotmail dot com. Not sure I can post it here as I suspect it would be advertising.

Here is an article about her (which I don't think would class as advertising!)

Thanks for your replies. I have always wanted to be a doctor but made wrong choices and ended up doing arts subjects but hope to apply to med school for 2010 entry.

I work full-time but not sure what commitment timewise the course would need in the evenings....

amazed to find this thread as i was about to start one! i'm thinking of applying for 2010 entry onto fast-track medical degree, i'd be almost 31 when i started. i have a six-month old baby, and would really like to have another baby around this time next year (fingers crossed). i need to go to some open days and find out if it would be possible to fit the degree around normal nursery hours.

i'd love to hear the experiences of MNers who've done similar with very young babies. i've been thinking about this on and off for about 8 years - part of me thinks why am i taking it seriously now it's never been less practical, though the thought of returning to a publishing career that my heart is not in, and being wildly jealous of every doctor i meet, is v depressing.
