Am thinking of applying and just wondered if anyone with school-age dcs had done it and how did you manage to attend classes - do they fit into school time? Also would be grateful for any general advice about the applications process.

Hi saadia

can't help you with regard to the primary pgce but I've recently started on the part time pgce ESOL/literacy course at IoE.

Have to say I'm finding it quite hard because my kids are 4 and have only just started reception so only doing half day.

I only attend college one full day (9.30 to 4ish) but do half a day teaching practice and need between half a day and a full day for lesson planning/reading/writing assignments.

I've got my first teaching sessions next week (rather than just observations) and have spent all day today devising activities and making a first attempt at lesson plans. It is really tiring but hopefully ultimately rewarding!

I am a single mother and rely on my mum for help with kids (thanks Mum) - without that support I don't think it would be possible.

Application was by interview/timed essay sort of thing.

hth and if you want any more info, just ask

hi kdk, sorry I never got around to checking this thread but just in case you see this thanks so much for your info. I did apply and just today found out that I have an interview (in May ) so am not nervous yet - well I wasn't until I read the bit about the timed essay in your post.

You sound like you're doing really well and it's great that your mum is helping out. I hope it is all still going OK for you.
