ipad for maths degree?

DD is hoping to study maths at uni next year. She’s started borrowing my ipad mini to work on as she likes the fact that she can erase things easily and that it can store all her notes/ workings etc.
She has a Chromebook as a laptop which she uses at sixth form, and was talking about getting her own ipad for uni.
Up until now she’s used a whiteboard and pen.
Just wondered what others use
for maths at uni. I don’t want to get her an ipad, then find out she needs something else in a year’s time!
Thanks.

Actually, Teesside is the only Apple Distinguished School in the UK (among universities): https://education-static.apple.com/geo/uk/apple-distinguished-schools/Apple_Distinguished_Schools_Directory.pdf

Oh they said at orientation that oxbridge were also on the list…weird

DD is NatSci, so 1/3 maths. She said the same as you before she went, and used an iPad for the first two years. Definitely the pencil was the best part of this. She has just had a laptop for year 3 as it wasn’t enough.

Daughter first year of maths degree, she uses iPad and Apple Pencil as well as old fashion paper and pencil for taking notes in lectures and a laptop for coding modules- although she said there were computers in the teaching room they could use, everyone has their own for work outside the lecture

i don't teach maths but pretty much the entire cohort on one of my first year modules (so 400+ students) use ipad pros. The irony that I can't afford one!

Dd needed a fairly high spec laptop to run the software for engineering (there were computers they could use but more convenient to have your own). I would wait until she knows where she is going before spending money. A Chromebook wasn’t powerful enough btw, and MacBooks couldn’t run the software

My son is a maths student at Warwick, and uses his iPad and MacBook. Most of the students have the same

Thank you all. I really appreciate all the replies.
We might look at the ipad for now with the knowledge that once she knows where she’s going, we’ll have to do laptop too.
Lots of really helpful advice. Thanks again.

Rather then two separate devices as I'm sure she'll need a laptop for maths as well. I'd look at the HP laptop that you can also use to write on. DD is doing a biology degree and finds hers really useful.

Hers is one like this but wasn't quite as expensive at this one. It's one device that can do everything she needs rather then having multiple different devices.
