Is it fair for university group work to affect individual marks?

DD has got her marks for year one. All good, apart from a "group" project where they all got a low mark.

Am I unjustified in feeling a bit pissed off that DD's mark is reduced by poor work by some other students wasters

Is group work likely to feature in later years as well?

In any case, British universities are not public services. They do provide a service to the public, but then so do MacDonalds and Burger King.

@topcat2014 My DD did MFLs. No group work on that. Maybe course and uni determine this. I had it at a poly back in the day but the qualification was work related. My DD had seminars but was responsible for her own input. Courses do say if group work features.

Group work is bullshit. I have a dc at an allegedly "top" uni studying humanities, they have to do so much with foreign students who can barely speak a word of English. It's an easy way for their so-called tutors to pass off responsibility.

All top universities have English language requirements, especially for humanities subjects so you are absolutely making shit up.

It's neither bigoted nor racist, it's true. It's people like you shrieking "racism" when something like this that is pointed out that stop any change ever being made. Top universities are not immune to being desperate for tuition fees and a substantial number of international students aren't up to scratch.
