Storage of belongings over summer for students, rather than bringing it all home? (Edinburgh uni)

Has anyone experience or recommendations about this?

My daughter is at Edinburgh uni. She has a gap of several weeks between having to leave halls and picking up keys for her 2nd year flat.

Has anyone used a storage company for their child's stuff for a short time? We live 6 hours away so are hoping to avoid 2 trips up!

I'm guessing its expensive?!

It's such a pain that's she's so far away, but she's happy, so I can't complain.

Gently, but your dd should get on the case not you. Children grow up by having to solve there own problems, if we as parents keep solving them for them they won’t learn.

Give her the suggestions from her and let her get on with it. Only step in if she asks/ needs help.

I found a friend who rented a house with a garage and then a friend with a car and stored my trunk in his garage over the long holidays.

All clothes, books & notes in case of resits and musical instruments fitted in my rucksack.

Non-course books, computer, crockery, saucepans etc stayed in the trunk in the garage.

My mate used to carry her portable telly on the train with her and post her bike.

At the end of 4th year, 3 of us clubbed together and rented a van to get our kit home. I drove 7 hrs down the day after term finished, then drove 7hrs back the next day to return the van. It wouldn't have occurred to any of us to involve parents.

My dd did this between first and second year as my car is quite small and there wasn't space for her to bring everything home. She hasn't had to do it this year as she has been able to move straight into her new accommodation.

Not sure of cost as she organised and paid for it, but I don't think it was horrendous. I helped her move the stuff to the storage unit and collect it again at the end of the summer. It was all very easy.
