Aesthetics training course help

Hey I’m just looking for some advice. I qualified as a nurse back in September and completed an aesthetics course in the November. A nurse that had mentored me on a placement was offering aesthetics courses so I decided to go with her especially due to her being a registered nurse which is something I looked for when looking for training courses. I completed a 2 day course in Botox and fillers and I’m not going to lie after the training, I still had no clue! I only completed half a set of lips and half marionette lines during my training! I was however able to do Botox on 15 models which was okay. She went through very basic facial anatomy with me with no exams or anything. She also went through very basic complications training. After my training she sent me a text message of all things I needed to like insurance etc however I have never been fully confident to set up! She also said that I could take my clients to her so she can be there in the background until I’m confident however she’s always either busy or doesn’t reply. I eventually just gave up trying to ask her for help and haven’t heard from her for months now. Due to me being at uni and struggling for money, my boyfriend paid £2000 for me to complete this course and I feel so disheartened as he keeps asking me when I am going to set up etc and I just don’t have the heart to tell him I’m not confident. I’m just looking for some advice as to what I should do next or if anyone else is in this field of work that could advise me please. I am desperate to start working in aesthetics alongside my nursing role.

would it not be easier to get a job/ sessions within an existing clinic. You wouldn’t have all of the setting up then.

@ProseccoPie I was thinking of this however I don’t really know anyone that well in my area to ask them if I could do this. I would love to though! Even if it’s just for a bit of a refresher.

You could just go to your local clinics/ surgeries with your cv and introduce yourself

Was the course accredited in any way? Honestly it sounds like you are unsafe to practice and the training was a scam. Is it compatible with nursing ethics?

As a registered nurse you will know that you must practise in accordance with the NMC code - i.e, safely; effectively; and within the limits of your competence and scope of practice.

It concerns me that you admit that you didn’t ‘have a clue’ at the end of your training, but it is good that you have recognised this. To me this says a lot about the level of training received.

Have you seen the information provided by the Joint Council for Cosmetic Practitioners? https://www.jccp.org.uk/

More information from the RCN https://www.rcn.org.uk/Get-Help/RCN-advice/aesthetic-practice

As you have been qualified for less than a year you won’t be an independent/ supplementary prescriber. Remote prescribing is not allowed and each patient must be reviewed face to face by the prescriber. This became mandatory for NMC pain holders in June 2025. Who will prescribe the botox etc for you? Did each of the 15 models that you practised on have an individual prescription?

I hope this helps
