My DD has assured me that no accmd has been offered yet ? She hasn't accepted any offers yet but doesn't feel there is a rush ??

No need to accept offers yet.

Accommodation applications will open much later and dates/process will be be university dependent.

Strop stressing and let your DD focus on her studies.

what do you mean by reduced halls? If you are asking about paying less due to medical disability, your DD needs to apply for DSA at the same time as student finance. Her needs will be assessed and if appropriate she may be offered funding towards accommodation (if she would pay more due to her disability). Again, the process is later. But university disability teams would be happy to talk to prospective students about the process if they have any questions.

Our daughter had DSA and as part of that they paid the difference between a standard and en suite room in halls.

No DSA but has been given a letter to substantiate loo needs

Again, it’s too early to apply for DSA (disabled student allowance).

This is a specific fund that can be allocated to support disabled students at university. If she applies (and sounds like she should) Professional (and typically very lovely and smart) assessors will meet with your DD to work out a package of support that might include accommodation funding along with eg tech support (laptop, assistive tech, etc) as needed. The process is really straightforward and university disability teams can help.

agree with pp the process is later. My Dd is eligible for DSA and had a discussion once she had received her A level results (I think). The university team also offered support eg accommodation on a lower floor, being able to stay on campus in year two etc. DD is at Bath.

RodeoClown · 22/03/2026 17:10

It sounds like she has a good understanding of the process and has everything under control. Which is how it should be.

DS has not accepted any offers as still waiting on Warwick. He has expressed a preference for a few halls in Manchester & ranked colleges for Durham.

Summerunlover · 22/03/2026 22:15

I used to work in an accommodation office for a uni. We don’t send out allocations until after results day. Also it depends on the medical issue if she will be allocated an en-suite. As a lot of students would apply because of ibs that alone didn’t guarantee an en-suite. Something like crohns for instance would.

angelcake20 · 23/03/2026 10:20

Every university has a different timeline for dealing with accommodation but definitely don’t rush the decision. Bath accommodation applications open May 1st but aren’t usually notified until results day. You can apply for finance, and therefore DSA, before actually firming, and it can be worth it if you expect it to be a complex process. As a pp says, sometimes DSA will fund the difference between a standard room and an en suite if there is a medical need. Also reach out to disability services as soon as you have firmed. They are often very helpful but admin sometimes takes a while.

ChasingMoreSleep · 23/03/2026 15:49

DSA can fund the additional disability related costs of accommodation. For university owed accommodation or third party owned but on behalf of the university, the higher education provider is expected to meet the additional cost. You can see the information for the current year here.

You can now apply for student finance and DSA for the 26/27 academic year.

@Summerunlover she gets chronic constipation I've not seen the letter yet

Daughter has already had halls allocated. She is also getting help towards the cost of an en-suite.
It depends on the uni as to whether accommodation is open. Leeds definitely open, nephew got the last room in the halls he wanted. Reading also open and Man Met.
