UniHomes utilities packages - upselling?

DS will be entering a 6-person house share in July, ready for his second year at uni. They haven't even signed the rental agreement yet, but they nevertheless filled in and submitted a UniHomes form that the agent sent them to sign up for inclusive bills at £22 per person per week. This is probably about double what they'd pay if they arranged it themselves, but given that they seem a bit disorganised (my son included) there is potentially some benefit in it.

The cooling off period has now passed, so they're committed. But now they've received an email upselling their broadband options - apparently the default broadband is only 100Mbps, but they can upgrade to 1000Mbps for an extra £1.49 per person per week. If one of them clicks on the button to accept the offer then it commits all of them to the extra spend.

My question (for those with UniHomes experience) is, will this just be the first of many "upgrades" offered so that the price slowly creeps up from expensive to more expensive?

My DC pays Unihomes. It’s the most extraordinary rip off, certainly compared to what we pay in our family home. But it makes it simple and no arguments about putting the heating on when it’s cold. The broadband was the main reason they did it as all the conventional suppliers they found wanted a 24 month contract, a bank letter addressed to them at the student house and various other barriers that they found too difficult to deal with. I was quite cross about it but the simplicity from their perspective won out.

But having signed up for utilities+broadband, the price hasn’t changed during the year.

In some ways, they don’t really need broadband in the house as they work in the uni library and have large data contracts, so I don’t think they wld have been interested in a faster upgrade anyway.
