DC applied but haven’t been invited to an interview yet; no rejection yet either; they sat the maths exam in January.

I think it's safe to assume it's not happening if the assessment date has passed. They'll probably reject everyone at the same time.

Yes, it is getting quite late to hear from them.

I didn't think they interviewed for Maths. My DC offer came through in early March last year

cosimnotwhereitsat · 08/02/2026 17:19

The results aren’t out until next week are they?

Bambooforest · 08/02/2026 17:26

DC applied for an Engineering course. The test I am referring to is the ESACT, results for January exam are coming out this week but DC said IC get them earlier.

The course website should give approx dates for interviews.

Mapletreelane · 08/02/2026 18:38

Imperial are notoriously late for interviews and offers. What course is it for as the dates are usually on the website.

PinterandPirandello · 08/02/2026 20:41

The most reliable source is the Student Room forum. A lot of offers for Imperial come out in March.

Thank you.

DS went through this last year. After the exam he didn’t think he’d performed well enough, but it took them til late March to send a rejection letter. (He’s v happy elsewhere now, good luck!)

Thank you; no sure it is the right uni for DC but it will be cheaper as we live in London

My DS sat the ESAT in October, so quite a while ago, and only received an interview invite from Imperial last week. Interview later this week so only 1 weeks notice. Hope this gives a little reassurance and good luck to your DC.

That suggests that Imperial was waiting for a gathered field of ESAT grades from October and January sittings.

Yes, this makes sense; unless they had some very strong applicants who got interviewed earlier

Thank you. How much he got if you don’t mind me asking?

He didn't do as well as he would have hoped! Slightly below average score across the 2 maths papers. But at the Imperial open day, the course he is applying to said they hadn't decided yet whether to take the ESAT score into consideration, as it is a more creative discipline of engineering.

Thank you. Is it Design Engineering. DC applied to that one.

What is the average? what A levels does your son has? Apologies for all the questions don’t answer if you don’t want to; just guessing DC chances.

That’s ok - yes Design Engineering. I understand the ESAT is scored from 1-9, so median score would be 4.5. My DS scored just under this. He does A level maths, further maths, physics and D&T. I hope your DC hears from them soon, it is v stressful for them

Thank you. DC only has 3 A levels, including Astar in maths and A in DT. I doubt it they will get more than 4 in the ESACT. They have an offer from Bristol for DE which gives us piece of mind.

All the best for your son.

@Bambooforest My son was offered Imperial Civil Engineering last year in the last week of March, so it's definitely not too late.

He did the ESAT exam in October and a video-bot interview in November.

Does your son's course do in-person interviews or bot interviews?

All the departments do their admissions independently, so you can only really compare with others on the same course.

I think if DC haven’t heard by mid March we can assume it will be a rejection.

No, he turned down the ICL offer - he felt ICL was a bit up itself and wouldn't suit his personality. In the end, he dropped a grade below predicted, so it made no difference.

Hope he is happy where he is. DC met someone who dropped after a year from Mechanical Engineering as they didn’t like it, now studying at UCL.

Yes, he's very happy. Loves his course, and doing well.
