Hi everyone, here's the new thread!

OP posts:

Hi all,

DD had her last day today, morning assembly, breakfast then out on a pub crawl with lots of y13s! I was concerned how she'd be after early drinking but she is still in once piece and DH is about to go and pick her up so all good 😁.

She is giving herself the day off tomorrow to rest (or 'reset' I think is the trendy term) then back to countdown revision to her first exam next Friday. I am a little nostalgic today at how fast her school years have gone, but relieved we are almost there now, y13 has been a long one so far!

Has everyone made their decisions now?

mumsneedwine · 07/05/2026 19:34

Good luck to everyone. It will all be over very soon. Lots of lovely new doctors 😊

Sounds like a great last day! I'm not sure my DD's school do anything... they are in lessons right up to May half-term so guess they might do sth that final Friday. I have a feeling there is a day where kids are a bit wild in the town and I don't think it's the final exam day.

DD has until 3 June to firm and insure as she didn't get all her decisions by 31 March.

PurryGrowls · 10/05/2026 09:04

Hi all - another step forward, daughter has at last decided to firm Southampton after attending the OHD yesterday. Did you go in the end @inae ? It was v well attended considering we’re in exam season! Great talks from current students and just had a really good vibe all round.

Now to tackle accommodation!

No last day of school here, lessons in full swing - & first exam this week.

Good luck everyone & hope the revision’s going well!

Katyapup · 11/05/2026 19:22

Last day this Friday for my daughter...and I think we're perhaps resigned to resits 😢 Chem & Bio are all good - latest prediction for Maths is D....feeling sad for her, she's working so hard, it just doesn't come easily at all.

Sorry to hear that @Katyapup That must be making you both anxious, it’s a lot of stress to deal with. Hope your daughter realises she’s done amazingly well to get to this stage!
Fingers crossed for maths 🤞

FruAashild · 12/05/2026 05:32

@Katyapup that's tough.

DD1's first exam is History next week so our first exam of this summer was DD2's Further Maths AS level (their school puts all the FM kids in for the AS level in Y12 so if they want to drop it at the end of the year they still get a qualification).

Itsallstressstressstress · 12/05/2026 15:30

@Katyapup sorry to hear that, fingers crossed for her.

DS has now finished his exams, last one was this morning so now waiting until 4th August for results. Good luck to everyone’s young ones who still have exams to complete. Will see you on the other side when results come out.

bluefineliner · 13/05/2026 06:57

@Itsallstressstressstress wishing you and your DS a calm and relaxing summer now, well done to him for getting through the exams.

@Katyapup ah that sounds tricky for your DD, does she genuinely think getting the grade in maths is impossible or is she catastrophising a bit? Does she need an A in maths or could it be lower? I can only offer sympathy on how difficult the subject is, DD swapped from maths to psych in the first week of y12 and with hingsight it was the right decision for her. And I agree with Purry your DD has to remember how well she is doing so far regardless of what is ahead results wise.

DD finally got her SFE application in, took all of 5 minutes so didn't disrupt her revision as much as she'd warned me it would 😂. I forced her out for a long walk and breakfast at a cafe on Monday to make her have a break. She is spending such a long time shut away revising I am having to help enforcing breaks.

DD's friend got an offer from Newcastle yesterday from the waiting list so is delighted. First exam is Friday for DD, psych paper 1, how have exams gone so far for your YP?

inae · 13/05/2026 08:10

Congrats @PurryGrowls. No, my DD stuck to her guns and didn't want to go to Soton. She's so excited about Sheffield and their offer is more flexible than Southampton. Sheffield wants A in either Bio or Chem. I believe Southampton wants the A specifically in Bio. My DD is doing 4 subjects (sciences and maths) so any 3 As will secure Sheffield. She's managed to get in touch with her flatmates (you get to pick the room at Sheffield and can see profiles of flatmates). So now they have a WhatsApp group. It all seems to motivate my DD even harder.

@Katyapup it's not over until it's over! I hope she gets the grade XX. I'm booking a UCAT slot for my DD in September just in case but fingers crossed it won't be needed.

@Itsallstressstressstress that's wonderful and must be such a relief, even though only for now.

PS..DDs school friend got rejected from Newcastle yesterday, such a bummer. She is reapplying.

MyGreyBiscuit · 14/05/2026 11:40

@Katyapup I'm so sorry about the Maths grade - is that some sort of prediction or just based on recent tests? I didn't think they'd be giving anymore such grades... Also, if she got offers based on her predicted grades, I'd presume they were realistic?

We're well away into study leave time. Although this week it's been peppered with meetings with DSA and accommodation people!

OP posts:
Katyapup · 14/05/2026 21:00

Thank you all for the support, I'm very grateful.

@MyGreyBiscuit I'm not sure if the maths grade is from Feb mocks, or more recent testing to be honest, perhaps it's from mocks. Her predicted grades were realistic as they did say there's no point inflating them.

@inae you're right, of course, although we are also going to be booking a ucat slot, just in case!

@Bluefineliner the offer is AAA but according to UCAS, students were accepted with AAB, depends on this year's cohort I guess. I think she definitely wishes she'd done something else, but thought she was maximising choices (I think I've said previously we were very naive about the whole process).

She does seem more upbeat today, we'll just have to see how it all goes...and then a very nervous wait until August! Need wine!

bluefineliner · 15/05/2026 06:08

@Katyapup yes I think decisions around results day will all be an unknown if any of our YP miss grades. As my DD needs AAA for both firm and ins with, as far as I can tell, not much room for dropped grades I have asked her to have a firm plan B for worst case scenarios on the day. She obviously doesn't want to think of that just now but I will be gently guiding her to think longer term after the exams are over. We all know as adults it is not the end of the world if anyone has to take a year or two longer to find their path, but for DD it will feel like this so I have to try and prepare!

Well it is here, DDs first exam, psychology this morning. She has revised enough and finds it her 'easiest' subject so I am hoping the paper is kind to her. I think she'll feel better once she's done one too, and end to all the waiting and build up.

Good luck to anyone else with exams today.

HelenofSparta · 15/05/2026 12:22

Good luck to all. I work in a sixth form so it’s stressful at work and the same when I come home (plus have a GCSE daughter too)!
xx

bluefineliner · 16/05/2026 06:13

@HelenofSparta on my, you do really have it from all angles at the moment! you have my sympathy 😂.

DD was happy with her first exam. Questions were what she wanted so one down, lots to go.

MyGreyBiscuit · 18/05/2026 17:53

hi everyone! hope you're keeping well! DS had his occ health check today online, and he's been cleared! yay!

That's great news @MyGreyBiscuit!

@bluefineliner glad the exam went well! We're yet to start, but we also have GCSEs going on, so well in to those!

This week is more positive, back into the higher grades again for maths past papers, so keeping everything crossed...

Good luck to everyone already in the thick of it

DD1 is in her first exam this afternoon (Modern History - all she's spoken about all weekend is Chancellor Kohl, very bizarre to have my own child learning about events I remember in History). Eek!

Ha ha, I remember him too! I dread to think what modern history will look like in another 40 years… ! Hope the exam went well.

FruAashild · 20/05/2026 06:28

Yes, she seems happy and let herself have the evening off so we watched some interior design masters and were suitably horrified at some of the beachhuts. Now had 2 weeks till her next exam but has History and Chemistry on the same day.

Tsuipen · 20/05/2026 19:04

Hope everyone is ok now we’re into exam season. DD has done the second of her three psychology papers today. It’s going to be tough going after half-term with ten papers over two weeks for her. I also have another one doing GCSEs so it’s all fun and revision card piles here!

inae · Yesterday 19:52

DD had Physics paper 1 yesterday and has the remaining 11 papers in June, it will be a crazy 3 weeks for her too. Quite tough for them but only one 1 month left until end of exams and about 4 months left until uni starts :)

Does anyone know if they need to re-register for UCAT? We are planning to book a slot "just in case", although DD is quite optimistic about not needing it.

rockstuckhardplace · Yesterday 19:58

Same here @inae!

I am pretty sure they don't need to register as they have an account. We are planning to do the same.

SuperSue77 · Yesterday 21:00

@inae and @rockstuckhardplace I've been reading on Facebook that re-sitting candidates do need to re-register for UCAT. I think they have changed it for this year. This is what the UCAT website says:

Returning candidates

Important information for candidates who created a UCAT Account in a previous year: UCAT Accounts created in previous years are no longer active.
All candidates (new and returning) will need to create a new UCAT Account if they wish to test in 2026.

You will be allocated a new UCAT ID as your old one will no longer be valid.
