Hi,

Just trying to figure out uni application processes for DC year 12.

He is keen on economics but also considering management (potentially with a language). The latter would be easier to get into. Has anyone got experience of applying for more than one subject? I imagine it is challenging on the personal statement. Another option could be apply for subject but have alternative as clearing back up? There is some overlap in business / economics but the statement would have to address both, which could leave DC looking less committed?

Any experience or thoughts? Thanks so much

My DD applied for Eng Lit and class civ; class civil linked with her Eng lit inspo so the PS was OK to write. She got offers for both from great RG unis.

My DD applied for philosophy + one language but the language varied between 2 options (French and Arabic) according to where she was applying. So for the language part of her personal statement, she wrote generally about her interest in both languages. It seemed to work. She got 4 offers out of 5 unis and met the offer for her preferred uni (Durham; Arabic). St A didn’t offer but i suspect that was because she was predicted an A for philosophy, not an A+, rather than the 2 language positioning, though of course i can’t be sure.

Thank you @clary - useful advice as ever. How did they handle it in personal statement?

:) thanks

So she wrote about her inspiration to study coming from reading the Percy Jackson books and how she was fascinated by ancient myths, and how we still read them and found relevance in them today – this fits well with old English and even things like Shakespeare and the Victorians (Jekyll and Hyde) as well as classical texts.

She took French A level so IIRC she referenced that as inspiring a love of language which also links to English (exploring the language of our literary heritage) and class civ (errr, learning Greek!)

With the overlap as you say between Economics and Business I would just write it as an economics personal statement
