Neuroscience career paths

My DD is in the third year of a neuroscience degree at an RG uni and heading for a high 2:1 or 1st (she got 3 A star at A level). She is not applying for grad jobs yet - she says she isn't ready and is considering a masters abroad or maybe taking some time out to travel. She has only ever had hospitality jobs as work experience. I'm concerned she's drifting a little. What career paths have other neuroscience grads followed?

What does she want to do? If it’s academia a PhD would be the next step. If industry then not sure how graduate entry job market is.

What’s her experience? My dd is in final year and had year in industry to get MSci, various other internships along the way and going to apply for phds next. Will follow thread with interest.
it does seem they go into academia or industry.

She has previously expressed interest in contributing to research or care for alzheimer or Parkinson's patients. She says there aren't many internships for neuroscience, but I don't know if she was just looking in the wrong places. She enjoys travel and has said she isn't keen to work for "big pharma" (but that position may not be entrenched - I expect a lot of very worthy research is sponsored by "big pharma").

Her degree seems to have gone so quickly! She's having lots of fun as a student. In principle I don't mind her taking time to figure it out, but I'm concerned she might miss the boat if she doesn't at least get some more relevant work experience under her belt.

op- there are loads of opportunities for internships. Dd has done a few- one was a month, one was 2 months, one a week as well as her year in industry. These have given here a wide range of experiences although she is still trying to narrow down what she wants to do.
Has she got advice off her personal tutor for pointing her in the right direction?

Do you know where your daughter found the internships? Via uni or generic jobs boards?

Has she looked at Milkround or Gradcracker? Asked her lecturers if she can spend some time with one of their colleague’s research projects? If she’s looking at research then a PhD is going to be required, whether it’s in big (or little!) pharma, a research institute, charity or a uni.

I think mostly via uni and also through networking once she’s done her first place, she used contacts she’d made there and same afterwards.

PhD are being released all the time at moment on university websites.
