Inspired by the Medicine 2026 entry thread, I thought I'd start a Dentistry one!

Anyone have a child applying?

final outcome
2 offers - 1 dentistry (which was his preferred uni) and 1 medicine
2 rejections
1 still waiting for, which he has withdrawn application. Accepted dentistry offer.
Good luck everyone.

Congratulations to all those who have had offers. I think that the application process is actually good preparation for what can be a stressful career. However if you can get through selection it suggests they are resilient enough for the course. It’s all part of the selection

Would I do it again? Absolutely! It was a vocation to me and I still love the job. I was in the pub the other day and one of my old patients said hello and pointed to her tooth we saved after she’d had a bad fall. Those are the moments that give you job satisfaction. I did a simple cosmetic job for a big , burly police officer and when he had a look in the mirror he burst into tears. So did I he was so happy with the result.

Saving the sight of a lovely lady who had a reaction to an injection in her eye that presented with jaw pain. We had seen her earlier in the week and she’d commented that her routine eye injection had felt odd. From the depths of my memory I made the connection with her jaw pain, and with the assistance of Dr Google. She was rushed in to hospital for treatment.

Life is never dull. I will miss it but I’m ready to hang up my mask and gloves. Hopefully the next generation of dentists will share our passion and continue to do dentistry for love rather not just the money.

@Lovingparent May I ask which paid online training you used? Did your DC think it was worthwhile?

@IWasThere4Aug12 he used myucat.co.uk. The site and service is run. Y a guy called Ojas , 5th year Oxford medical student. It cost £400. I was sceptical at the outset, as it is a lot of money.

it has been fantastic, it provides group tuition for Interview preparedness. 2 sessions a week, starts in October through to February. He also did 1 face face session interview prep in manchester, all included.

his outcome , he applied to 4 dentistry and 1 medicine. Got a good ucat mark. He got 5 out of 5 interviews. 2 offers , 2 rejections and withdraw from last as one of the offers was his preferred uni.

many of the people doing the program are taking an extra year to do re apply. He wasn’t , first year. His school is excellent as well. Just now needs to get grades.
