My dd had this vaccine in year 9 - does she need a booster for university? Thanks.

Men B was only introduced into the NHS vaccination schedule for babies in 2015 so teenagers going to university now are not covered. We’ve had it done privately at local pharmacy.

As far as I’m aware no booster required for ACWY.

Although your DC may have had the Men B vaccine outside of the NHS scheme.

No need for a booster for the Meningitis ACWY vaccine if they have already had at school.

Meningitis B is separate vaccine and only offered on NHS for babies born after 2015. So if you want your DC to have before going to Uni then you need to pay privately. Boots offer at £110 per dose ( 2 doses, min 4 weeks apart). I decided to do this for my DD although left it too late to get both doses in before uni so she’ll need to get second at uni - but she’s going to a big city so hoping she’ll find a suitable Boots!

DC has had both doses of the Men B this summer - but only because I had read about it on MN in previous years and therefore knew about both it and the gap required. We had a local travel clinic who did it - same price as Boots, but more convenient for us.

I have read many tales of even GP surgeries giving out incorrect info about it. As PP says it was only routinely given since 2015 and is not the ACWY which they (should) all have had access to.

What’s confusing is there are four meningitis vaccinations. If your daughter has had all her free nhs jabs she would have had ACWY which includes three meningitis vaccinations. You can ring school immunisation team or your dr to confirm.
unless you organised this privately she would not have had the 4th meningitis vaccination as this only came out in 2015 and was only offered to babies. If she is going to have this jab she would need two doses at £110 each where we live from boots.
look at meningitis website meng b seems to be more common I guess as not all young adults vaccinated
