Trinity College Dublin for MA

Hello,
My DD is thinking that she would like to do an MA at Trinity College next year.
Does anybody have any experience of how this would work loan wise etc? We live in England.
Would she be able to stay on campus or would she have to get private accommodation?
Any information or options would be appreciated as I really don’t have a clue about any of this!
Thank you 🙏

She wouldn't be eligible for the UK postgraduate loan, because she wouldn't be studying in the UK.

Ireland doesn't have a student loan system. People pay out of pocket or take out loans from banks and credit unions.

Unfortunately accommodation in Dublin is challenging. Trinity try to accommodate international postgrads on campus, but demand outstrips supply.

There are private student residences throughout Dublin city centre. They can be expensive (€1400 a month).

Thank you for the information. She may have to rethink 😞

Find out what the costs are, in general university cost is much lower in Ireland, and I think UK students are treated as local students.

For undergraduate tuition cost is about €3k a year. (its called a registration fee)

Trinity is a great university in a lovely city centre campus. My DD did her undergrad there. If possible your DD should attend an open day at the college and discuss her particular situation. During the summer months the city centre halls are available to tourists to stay in.
I know the undergrad fee structure for EU students covers UK too. Your DD will need to clarify about postgrad eligibility. But even non-EU fees are probably less than a leading UK university.
TCD provides student accommodation on site & also modern purpose built accommodation in the Dartry area of Dublin. Many students live in house shares around the Rathmines & Rathgar arees of Dublin, but even a house share could be €1000 a month.
Irish students can apply for grants via susi.ie & I believe UK students can also apply (they will need an Irish PPS number first - our version of National Insurance number). Eligibility is based on income. Again your DD should explore this option to see if she can get financial assistance.
As a UK citizen your DD will be eligible to work in Ireland without a visa or other restrictions.

TCD also have student accomodation near the Guinness storehouse, I think.

Excellent Uni, lovely place to live but...
-Completely self-funded, and even the Irish students can't usually get a loan, although fees are less than UK equivalent.
-Needs a 2.1

-Housing crisis in Dublin. No guarantee of accommodation [except for some 1st year International (ie not Irish/British/EEA) undergrads, some with specific needs and scholars], so she will need expensive, hard to get private accommodation.
-Cost of living seems way higher than the UK
-Healthcare provision, access and cost is very different (eg 60 Euro for a hard to find GP visit, 100 for a walk in A and E visit).
-Not a campus uni, so depending on the course and if you have Dublin family, might find it a bit lonely. Most sports off-site but there is a great gym and pool onsite.

Doesn't she mean MPhil/MSc etc , because I don't think Trinity offers an 'MA' so make sure she reads the PG booklet.
