MMU Manchester vs AUB Bournemouth for film?

DS was keen on Man Met for Film production due to the big city and creative vibe however AUB Bournemouth seems to have a very highly regarded course with more accreditation - It doesn't seem to be such a happening place though.

Would appreciate hearing about first hand experiences of both. He has clearing offers for both.

Thanks for replying. Will check out Manchester film school. Anyone else have recommendations?

Just my opinion having worked in a youth club in Cardiff, but Cardiff seemed to have it all going on re film and tv! BBC studios hiring graduates from USW I worked with etc. I have no experience of the actual courses, but I have went to uni of Cardiff to visit my niece doing a different course. Lovely halls and good pastoral links and a great nightlife and culture. Art galleries etc
Lovely areas not too far for walking etc. Loved the bay.

I would say for film and TV placement and career opportunities (in order) it's London, Salford /Manchester, Cardiff, Belfast . Arguably, Salford would be ahead of London , especially for TV.

Thank you for that list. Very useful. In terms of London- where in particular? We are London based so she may be able to save money by living at home.

Nowhere in particular. It's just about being in London in terms of opportunities.

My DS just graduated MMU in film and is staying put. He was introverted when he got there and I was a bit concerned about him going to a big city but he liked it, and he’s staying there. I think there’s something to be said for staying for opportunities in a big city. The Unis seem to mix too which I think is good - I have heard that Manc Uni and MMU course-wise try to complement one another and not compete. Not sure if that is true but I like that idea.

I just wanted to update, for anyone who stumbles on this thread when doing uni research.

We visited AUB Bournemouth in Aug for the clearing open day. The campus is nice but very mini, it is also out of town and not walkable from the student area. Ultimately DS wasn't keen on Bournemouth as a town, it has a bit of a run-down seaside town feel. DS really wanted a big city.

So he went with MMU. They put my mind at rest about not having the ScreenSkills Accreditation, they did previously have it but didtched it as they felt it was too limiting. They do have another one for camera use etc, Black Magic. DS is very much more on the creative side of things so is not really interested in operating cameras, editing etc.

DS seems to be loving it so far. Manchester is a great student city...I haven't heard too much about the course yet other than they seem to be doing lots of group work. Ultimately he is very happy with his choice. Will update with more info as time goes on...
