Just wondered if anyone had experience of either Sustainability and Environmental Management or Business Management degrees . Our son has an offer from Leeds to Sustainability and Environmental Management - sounds interesting but he has never shown one bit of interest in climate issues and never did science at A Level. the Business Management degree is at Liverpool - again sounds interesting - covers lots of modules but are Bus Man degrees a bit wishy washy.

Does he know what he would want to do after university - if he's not interested in the environment that seems an odd choice of degree. Business management is about all aspects of working in and running a business. Out of the two would go with that one if doesn't want to do an environment based job. Or see what's in clearing if not sure about either or a year out so he's clearer on what he wants to do.

The world is awash with environmental scientists who struggle for decent paid work. I think Business is better because it’s not niche. If he becomes interested in sustainability he can try for a job it it. Realistically the jobs open to new grads are small and many go to geography grads. Business is less wishy washy than a niche bums on seats degree with limited employment.

what did he apply for?
I know nothing about the sustainability course.
DD2 is going a business management degree as she wanted to go into business (whatever that may mean). She’s finished her 2nd year and has just begun a placement year doing project management. The degree covers sustainability as ESG is a focus for all businesses. Hers is a bit mathsy with analytics / accountancy etc. Her uni offers a BA version that’s less mathsy but not hugely different. Hope this helps a bit.
