Is there a way to narrow down universities by qualification accepted?

Just that.
I know that you can narrow it by UCAS points but that’s not at all helpful.

As part of her “think about next steps” summer homework, DD has decided she would like to go to university.

She’s doing a C&G L3 - the one worth 3 A levels and has a UCAS points range of 168-48 (don’t quote me exactly on that, but it’ll be close if it not right).
She’s been getting Distinctions and Distinction stars so likely to have high UCAS points.

We can probably rule out a lot, if not all, of the top universities but it would be useful to be able to narrow the rest down by qualifications accepted if that’s possible.

College have provided some guidance by giving a small list of which universities have accepted their course in the past, but she would like to look beyond that list and I was hoping there was an easy way of narrowing things down.

Thanks :)

Bangor would be a great choice for her

Take a look at Bangor and Aberystwyth universities. They do a lot of environmental courses and accept c&g.

She’s had a quick look at those over the last couple of days and likes the one at Bangor. Her comment was “lots of field work and near where red squirrels live” (she likes red squirrels).

You have just said that to the most un-techy person on the planet aha.

I hadn’t even thought about it, but I’ll give it a go and see what happens. Good shout. Thanks.

Most good unis will accept vocational qualifications and access courses these days. It really does depend on what she's studying and what she wants to do at uni though. I think Oxbridge are the only ones it would be a hard no for, and that's because they have relatively few places and rather a lot of applicants and have to narrow it down somehow.

It is not just because it is an easy way for oxbridge to narrow down applicants, it is because of what their courses cover. ‘Old’ universities tend to offer more ‘pure science’ based courses which build on the academic content of A levels. But for applied subject areas you are better going to post-1992 universities anyway as that is their strength.

My DD is planning on doing a Geography degree. From looking into this with her I've seen that lots of Geography departments have environmental studies type courses and many universities offer a foundation year - is this worth looking into?

Sorry if it doesn't answer your question

The longest running Environmental Science courses are at less high ranking universities, broadly speaking. Bangor, East Anglia, Portsmouth, Plymouth, Harper Adams etc. They all have sub specialism too, UEA for climate change, Harper Adams for conservation, Bangor for marine.

She needs to aims for what's she's most interested in or find one which offers a broad interdisciplinary 1st year.

@mamabluestar thanks for the idea about foundation years - shes had a look and is happy to consider them if that is the best way for her to do it.

@turkeyboots excellent list, thank you. And I agree with either broad 1st year or one that’s she’s really interested in.

She has an obsession passion for Red Squirrels so at the minute is very concentrated on any university which is in or close to Red squirrel territory, or does some sort of module/part module related to Red squirrels or UK endangered species. I think Harper Adam and Bangor have both made it onto the list, despite the red squirrel obsession passion because of course content and they both accept the C&G. She’s also added Cumbria, SRUC, RAU, Exeter, Aber and Nottingham Trent. A few other land based colleges have been mentioned but I don’t know whether she was that keen on the content. There was also a mention of Lancaster? And/or Stirling? (Can’t remember 100% whether they went down on the list). No doubt this list will get very long and somehow we will have so shorten it.
