How to claim Disabled Students Allowance in Scotland for University

Hello,
Is anybody please able to help me with regards to claiming DSA in Scotland? It's for a University course.
The student concerned has a confirmed diagnosis of Dyslexia, ADHD and has previously had counselling with CAMHS for anxiety. They are about to start their 2nd year of Uni (2nd yr of 4 yr course) and did not claim last year; however are now realising that DSA could possibly be a real help to them.
Any advice would be gratefully received as we are completely new to this, having never claimed anything previously.
Any information or links would be great.
Thank you ...

They need to contact the disability office in their uni (they need proof of diagnosis) who will do a needs assessment.to see what support they need. This can be technology, extra time in exams, flexibility in deadlines and a mentor. It was the weekly mentoring sessions which helped my DD the most.

If they advise any equipment then the student is paid directly and has to buy from their supplier and submit the receipts.

I advise applying as soon as possible, they should be working through the holidays. I have experience with Stirling who were very slow to do the assessment and UHI who did it really quickly.

Gingerkittykat - thank you. That's really helpful. So, am I right in thinking that it's a needs assessment first and then fill in the SAAS form afterwards?

Not necessarily. Support the student to book an appointment with the disability service asap so that can talk you through the process. Disability Service will be staffed throughout the summer and it is probably possible to book an appointment online, but if not email them. With the student’s agreement, you can be involved in the meeting, so you and your child could meet with the Disability Service on Teams and discuss next steps. Don’t delay, they’ll get busy quickly preparing for the new students’ arrivals as soon as school results are out.
