University of Manchester - accommodation

My DD firmed her offer to study English at the University of Manchester. We are now turning our attention to accommodation.
She is hoping for an ensuite room and ideally wants to be within walking distance of the main campus. We have only just started looking and she has not submitted an application for university halls yet.
Does anyone know if there is still likely to be availability in university-managed halls at this stage? And if not, which private halls (Unite, iQ, etc) are worth considering for location and safety?
Also open to hearing from anyone whose child ended up with something decent despite applying late.
Any advice or reassurance appreciated. Thank you.

I would presume there is likely to be availability, but, from when my ds looked round Manchester, my memory is that most of the accommodation is more of a bike ride, or bus ride away from most of the lecture halls, rather than walking distance (obviously, depending on how far people consider 'walking distance' to be.
What did they say when you looked round ?

Rule of thumb is often - "within walking distance of Oxford Road if possible". Because that's where its all going on.

We’re in Manchester for graduation for a DC who was a Sept 22 starter when they ran out of accommodation!! You’ll need to check the accommodation rules - it used to be that you could apply up to a few days after results came out and still be part of the (very random) allocation. They made a complete hash of when my DC started so might have changed the rules. If you can still apply for uni accommodation, Fallowfield or one of the other main areas is probably the best bet. As a PP has said, buses are always going up and down the main road so those locations are all fine.

If you can’t still apply then look and see what’s available. There are some on or very close to the main road and others across from where the main uni buildings are. I’d try to be in a main area if possible.

All if that said, the thing I’d be least bothered about is an en suite. I’d far rather be in the main area and share a bathroom. My DC would echo that.

If you ring up UOM accommodation office up they should be able to tell you what’s still available. There is a good fb group Manchester university student accommodation and also Manchester university student accommodation 25-26. People will sometimes be trying to offload contracts if they’re not coming back. Good luck, Manchester is surprisingly expensive .

also house of student for private halls.

I’m a Uni of Manchester graduate and went back there for an open day with dd fairly recently. From what I could tell the best places to live are still either Victoria Park or Fallowfield and in the case of the latter it’s a short bus ride and buses go up and down Oxford road regularly. I would get your dds application in as soon as possible for a place in halls in one of these areas as some of the Manchester accommodation is being rebuilt so there may be less choice than usual. If it were my dd I would encourage her to go for location over luxury in terms of accommodation. My dd was adamant she wanted self catered ensuite so we discounted Manchester for this and other reasons. They do have some halls that fit this criteria but probably not enough to meet demand which is why they are rebuilding older basic self catering halls.
