Do all results have to go on UCAS?

Could anyone possibly help? I've tried googling but I'm not finding the results from UCAS very clear. DD is in Scotland so has done National 5 exams. Some of the year were also given the opportunity to do GCSE further maths. This happens later this week and next week.

She is not as confident with this as she'd hoped to be. If she takes it to have a go, does she have to put the result on her UCAS form, given that she'll have a full set of National 5 and Higher results as a Scottish student?

Yes she does. She might do better than she thinks.

If it's any consolation, Dd got a D for her FM paper, but still went to Oxford and studied a maths related course.

Examquestion25 · 09/06/2025 19:18

Thanks, @Dearover , that's very helpful! I want to encourage her to 'have a go' but don't want to heap on extra (arguably unnecessary) pressure.

They treat it as a nice extra, but it's not doom & gloom otherwise

I blame myself as I took her to Wembley to see Ed Sheeran which wiped her out for the weekend with her exam on the Monday!

lostinthesunshine · 09/06/2025 19:21

I presume you are worried that it would count against her is she gets a bad mark?

I don’t think it works like that. I’m pretty sure it is a “read it from the top” system so eg someone who got 5As and 2Ds wouldn’t be seen as worse than someone who got just 5As.

Examquestion25 · 09/06/2025 21:08

Ha ha @Dearover . I hope she didn't blame you too?! Probably a good distraction and obviously didn't matter in the end.

@lostinthesunshine I'm really not worried either way but she heaps pressure on herself and yes, I think this is what's worrying her.

I am trying not to sway her one way or the other. Tbh I'm not sure what to advise anyway; I can see the benefits of doing and not doing.

Thanks though; your replies are really helpful!

My ds is in exactly the same position, though in England. He is also likely to do something STEM related at uni. He's happy to give it a go and seems to find it funny if he gets a random low grade, but I don't want it to come back and bite him.

RareGoalsVerge · 09/06/2025 21:43

I think she does. Also, it's too late to withdraw her entry so if she doesn't sit the exam there will be an official result published of a Fail, so even if she gets a low grade that will be better. I was in a similar position a million years ago and I got an E. Still went to Oxford to do a mathematical subject, they didn't care.

Examquestion25 · 11/06/2025 10:26

Thanks all. I think she's going to give it a go.

@Examquestion25 how did she do?

Examquestion25 · 27/08/2025 17:39

She got a 9! I am amazed, in a good way! She got an A1 in maths Nat 5 but the further maths GCSE was definitely a step up. I'm most pleased she was in a way rewarded for her bravery if that makes sense. (I did wonder about updating but didn't want to be boasty.)

I’m delighted to hear that! The Further Maths is a great step up for kids who enjoy maths.
You must be so proud of her.

I love updates like this
