When to start Uplearn?

I’ve seen people suggest Uplearn to students needing an A star or A in A level sciences and someone I spoke to recently recommended my DD use it for her science A levels (she’s doing GCSEs currently) but I’ve seen that it is really expensive, so just wondering is it just a revision tool, or can it support from the start of A levels? Her future career aspirations require top grades in chemistry and biology so I’m keen to support her in whatever way I can, but don’t want to waste money on something.

My son started in February this year. It's really good. Depending on how comfortable your daughter is with physics - February/March can be fine just for revision/testing, but if you want to go through all the topics to get to 90% for the money back guarantee then probably start at the beginning of year 13 as it's a lot to go through to get to that 90%. My son is nowhere near for example, but he hasn't done all the topics.
We just paid for the core version at £70 a month.
Money well spent.

Thanks! Is your son year 13? So he started Feb before exams in the May/June? We’re thinking of starting it in year 12 to help introduce the topics ahead of school lessons covering those topics, not sure if that is a common use of the resource -
a pretty expensive use though!

Great to hear your son has found it useful. She’d be using it for chemistry and biology.

Yes February year 13 for Physics. He was battling with a few topics and we were looking at getting him a tutor and then heard about Uplearn.
You can start in year 12, but as you say it becomes very expensive then. Although cheaper than weekly lessons with a tutor

Just to add. I think you can pause it after a few months and then start again if needed if you are paying monthly. Might be wrong.

We bought Uplearn for Chem at the tail end of Yr 12, as my DD was having a wobble about how far ahead in the syllabus the parallel class were. She was at B/C in her mocks yr 13 (end of Jan), end of Mar she was predicted A/B (she needs an A for her first choice uni). Her foot came off the gas with Uplearn in the Autumn of Y13. V busy, coursework in her 2 other A levels, early UCAS submission, EPQ, uni interview prep. If you can afford it (it's free for FSMeals) I would get Uplearn now with access until the end of Yr 13. If your YP is conscientious I think they would benefit from dipping into their subject/s over the summer to consolidate and/or clarify concepts they haven't understood from Y12. I think better to start earlier. My DD says it feels like a game and is quite addictive trying to get her % up. It's hard to get it to the 90% that gives the guarantee as another poster has mentioned.

Thanks, that’s really helpful. I found out on Friday that DD’s school has a subscription so she’ll have access to it for both chemistry and biology from the start of yr 12 to end of yr 13, so really pleased! Glad to hear how it’s addictive, I think my DD will enjoy using it. I paid fi4 her to have a seneca subscription in run up to GCSEs and she has enjoyed using that.

Oh that's wonderful news, as it would've been doubly expensive with the two subjects.
She'll be able to f/up on Uplearn after school lessons for reinforcement. It forces spaced repetition of covered topics too, as the green bars (which illustrate how much of topic covered, automatically decrease over time, and you have to refresh your understanding to "top" them up).

My DDs first Chem paper is Tues and she's just done a past paper in exam conditions, marked it subsequently, and got an A. Albeit only 2 marks into the A grade boundary. I have everything crossed for Tues.

My DD used it for biology - she needed an A and was tracking for an A but found the essay very hard. She got it after Xmas in Y13 and found it really good. She ended up with an A*
