BA English Goldsmiths without A Level

I’m hoping to do BA English at Goldsmiths via online learning.

I got As in GCSE English Language and Literature. I have a BTEC triple distinction. And a 2:1 BSc in psychology.

What are the chances they’ll let me on the course?

(of course I am going to ask them, just looking to hear some real life examples).

Are there any other online BA English courses (except OU)?

Do they offer an online version? I’m surprised if so…. I’d say your chances of an offer are good. Arden is the other online specialist other than OU (which Id rate far higher than G btw) - why not OU?

No issue at all with a 2:1 already and an A Level in English.

Their admissions team are usually very responsive, though, so you could email them to check?

Why on earth do you think they wouldn’t want you? You have more to offer than most applicants. Am I missing something?

you will easily be let in, none of the requirements listed on the page require an a level in English, they have a section for Btec qualifications they need but also you already have a degree

She doesn't have an A-level in English. That's why she's asking...

Sorry misread that - but I know (having just done an MA in English recently, applying with a 2:1 in psychology too) that they will only care that OP already has a 2:1 in another degree. A level English is not normally required, especially when you have a higher qualification.

I think your chances are strong because a) you have the 2.1 in a degree already which shows you're capable of advanced learning and b) you're a mature student (in comparison to the 18 yr old first years) and most mature students have actively decided to further their studies and are committed.

Thanks all. I live abroad and they won’t accept OU degrees. That’s great to hear with my existing degree I should have a good chance!

Do they definitely do distance learning though? Would you look into a Masters? Plenty available by distance.

titchy · 21/05/2025 13:37

Ahhh - you’re doing the University of London external programme which happens to be supported by Goldsmiths. UoL will be the registering uni, not Goldsmiths, so they’ll make the academic decision on admission.

I’ve been in touch with them and they would accept me, great news!
