Psychology Scotland uni - changing from MA to BSc

DD has offers for Scottish unis for an MA in Psychology, as she only has Psychology as a science subject. However, she desperately wants to swap to the BSc so she can do more science based electives.

She is taking a gap year and was wondering if she could cram an A level Biology in in that time, or if maybe the uni would accept an AS level?

She will be emailing unis herself, but I thought I’d ask the collective wisdom of MN Smile

Even if no requirement for A level for biology it could be hard going without as you'll be in the same class with those who have A levels in Bio and Chemistry who have chosen as their main subject. Easier if they run a a Bio for Psychologists or similar

Does she have a Maths A level? That might be useful too. I'd look carefully at the outside subject options available for 1st and 2nd year if you have limited science/maths.

Uni might recommend how she could prepare in her gap year eg OU or HNC.

I would imagine criteria is uni specific. I have a BSc in Psychology and no science A levels. And tbh I don’t think it would have been relevant to the degree content anyhow.

I don't know if you still can but 25 years ago at Glasgow Uni my husband swapped from science to arts faculty under 'change of direction'. He was struggling with Maths when studying Computer Science but it was compulsory when in the science faculty. He changed to the Social Science faculty and swapped Maths for another subject a few weeks into first year.
He arranged this through his advisor of studies, maybe you could talk to someone in admissions to see if it's possible to switch Faculties still?

It is uni specific. I also have a bsc psych with no science a level. You don't need it really for psychology. Maths is more useful but again not essential as long as you are willing to learn about statistics a lot.

To answer your question, yes, in theory she can do an A level in her gap year, in fact depending on how well she did in the subjects for GCSE, she may even be able to do 2.

My Ds is set to do an MSci in Psychology in Sept. He has A levels in Psychology, Biology, Chemistry and Maths. Most of the places he applied to asked for sciences and maths as essential A levels which leads me to believe it is going to be quite science/maths heavy as a Bsci or Msci.
