Accepted students for 2025 - WhatsApp groups?

Does anyone else's child have an invitation to join some kind of WhatsApp group prior to starting at a university / college in Sept?

Mine are saying they're not interested in meeting other students this way and will wait til they're there in person.

Don't blame them.

Or particularly this far out.
I can see some advantages once everyone has their results, but even then, I'm more of a person who needs to see a face / body language / tone of voice when getting to know people.

@CarpetKnees Yes I see your point and I see theirs. They each have unconditional (grades in hand) offers that they firmed back in October. I wonder if in a way its just the Uni trying to keep them interested, worried they might back out, but it doesn't matter because neither of them is having any of it, clearly.

One of our DC was in a WhatsApp group before university. She spent a lot of time shrugging off the people she had met on there!

Both mine joined social media groups and used them but not until the summer. The groups were useful to find who else on their courses were in the same halls and to create a little spin-off group with the people who would be in their halls' flat. For them it made moving in with strangers a little less scary as they had already been messaging each other.

DD1 had that and it was really helpful for her to feel she knew people beforehand. Some people found their flatmates on it, but her flat hadn't joined the group.

Mine joined one. He doesn’t really comment but seems to quite enjoy all they’re chuntering on about. Eg today they had their first subject-specific exam and spent a lot of time discussing it. As his class at school is v small I think he enjoyed that. Don’t think he sees them as people - just names
