Southampton uni, where should we be selecting for accommodation first choices? Also any ideas of prices for the following years ?

Glen Eyre is popular, there are different room types available for different budgets, it's a 10 min walk from Highfield Campus and has a fitness suite + includes the bus pass.
Second year it really depends where they choose to live within Southampton.

If they want to be a 5 minute walk from the West Quay shopping centre, 2 minutes from the station and have a bus stop outside halls direct to the campus, select Mayflower Halls. These are pricier though and therefore attract a lot of overseas students.

Have they visited?

DS1 was in Wessex Lane Halls last year and was happy with his room which was a decent size but not ensuite. He had a bus pass included in the rent. This year, like many students, he is in a houseshare in Portswood. Southampton doesn’t seem to have a shortage of student housing but he had sorted his second year house before Christmas of his first year.

Yes we’ve been to visit but not seen all the accommodation as too much to see
do you know of all the rooms that have shared bathrooms all have their own sink in the bedrooms?

My DD was in Glen Eyre and loved it. It's a very nice setting and close to the campus. She had a room with a shower and a shared kitchen.

My son is in Glen eyre & is in an enhanced room with shared bathroom. His room is quite dated but very large. All rooms have a sink. There are 4 rooms sharing 1 bathroom & 1 kitchen. It comes with a free bus pass & free laundry.

As others have said, it is very convenient for uni. Next year he is in a house share in Portswood.

Feel free to ask any questions

One of mine went to Glen Eyre for first year. He was happy with it, he liked how close it was and there are a selection of room options. The first month was spent elsewhere due to a gas or water issue for his block (everything was completely sorted by Glen Eyre) and he and his flat mates were placed closer to town while it was sorted. He didn’t like the distance to uni, the buses were all caught up in peak traffic and it just wasn’t as convenient as being in Glen Eyre proper.
