My friend is an art therapist. She works in schools and has her own practice. The council pay for all her school visits.

She is very, very lucky indeed!

I was a teacher and have been in and around schools and children’s services for the best part of twenty-five years and have never met or seen reference to anyone fulfilling that role.

The other problem is that such offerings are the first to be cut when budgets tighten.

Art or play therapist
marketing
web design
illustrator
artist! Cards/prints etc
PGCE
photographer

i think I’ll wonder similar in a few years as DD is likely to study art. I have to say i think it’s wonderful but job wise less so! She’s interested in Architecture but as you say that requires further studies.

I can't dissuade dd from wanting to pursue art! So, I believe she will have some ups and downs ahead of her. However, when success comes it all seems worthwhile. Dd is in her first year of A levels and has just been selected to exhibit at the Royal Scottish Academy's Annual Open Exhibition - very cool. She'd be insanely pleased to have a few more Insta followers (and happy to reciprocate!)

@TooTiredToType77 Thank you! Dd is doing photography as one of her A levels. How is your dd enjoying the course? Will uni help at all with career ideas?

TizerorFizz · 01/05/2025 17:45

@FriendlyLaundryMonster Universities have careers fairs and dc should go to them. Great if you get noticed of course but very hard if you don’t. Universities might get jobs notified to them but mostly dc must network like mad. In general it’s very very hard to get a job that pays much. Lots of freelance. My DD would not do her degree again. She’s retrained.

@WillowTit Thank you! She works really hard, but she doesn’t see it as work, so I guess that’s the ideal scenario.
