Accepting offers- help?

Can anyone help please. New to this.

DS applied to 5 unis and had offers from 4. He had an interview at his preferred choice almost a month ago but didn’t hear anything back. Not a no but not a yes. He’s been hanging on for a response. I know some of his class mates got offers day after interview.

Today on UCAS portal DS saw a notification to say he’d had 4/5 offers and that the other one he either ‘didn’t get an offer/course full/or withdrawn’. He has til 8th May now to confirm his choices. What is weird is that he’s never had any notifications from preferred choice.

He tried to call the admissions to clarify but couldn’t get through. He’d previously e mailed and not had a response either.

Have they forgotten about him? admin error? And if UCAS now giving him a deadline this seems to suggest he didn’t get in but no one told him.

Can anyone suggest what might have gone on with this please. We will ring UCAS today but any info would be helpful. Thanks.

the UCAS communication seems pretty clear- he didn’t get an offer from number 5?

perhaps the email from that one went into junk?

Hyperfish808 · 01/04/2025 08:18

Yeah just seems weird to get no notification. He checked e mails and junk every day. Ah well.

thanks.

Unfortunately when universities decide not to make an offer they do quite often just use the UCAS function to notify applicants. It's not very elegant, I agree, but it is what it is.

Would he not get a rejection notification either? He had direct e mails for all his offers as well as updates on UCAS

This sounds odd as the deadline for students to accept/decline offers is 5 June, not 8 May.
Unis don't have to make a decision on applications they have received until mid-May, so seems odd that the decision deadline is 8 May.

I think I would try to contact UCAS and see what is going on. It is not unusual for the applications portal to throw an wobbly and show complete rubbish for a short while.

@Hyperfish808 He should see it on the UCAS portal. My DD had this years ago from Brighton. Had heard nothing after interview and it got into May. She just removed them in the end and accepted what she had been offered. They should let interviewed candidates know but some universities don’t. The course DD applied for was still saying applicants could apply! Totally bizarre.

No, not necessarily.

@Hyperfish808 He has a while before he needs to decide. How does he feel about the offers he has got? Was this university no 1 by a long way or just generally no 1?

Hyperfish808 · 01/04/2025 12:41

Really wanted first choice. However he’s coming around to the others. He needs a bit if space to think about it.

bit disappointing that the uni didn’t bother to let him know. Been hanging on over a month.

DD had her interview in mid February! Heard nothing by 30 April. Wasn’t her first choice though. You do have another 4 weeks before you need to be concerned. Brighton were rude though given the effort to get there!!!

TomatoesForKing · 01/04/2025 18:33

@Hyperfish808 I am sorry our DS is disappointed. At least there are other options to choose from and there was something on UCAS to see this result. I have read here a few times about how various DC applied to LSE and never even got a reply in any form.

No you don’t necessarily get a notification from the uni, it just appears on UCAS. And there have even been cases of uni not accepting OR rejecting and just letting it time out, so to speak.
