Hello
Anyone else applied through Campus France for undergraduate degree in France? My DD has just been through it & hoping for an offer; without the tuition fees (an admin fee is payable) looks like it could be a good option.

What course does your DD want to do?

it is worth bearing in mind that French universities are different to the UK in that more people go to their local university. Halls of residence are more basic and a lot of people either live at home or return home at weekends. I spent a year abroad in France and despite being an outgoing person I felt quite lonely. This was in northern France. Obviously this was a long time ago so things might have changed. I don’t know if your dd is bilingual and you are already living in France in which case I can see it would be worth considering.

I agree, most first year undergraduates in France will go home at weekends if they aren't living with their parents full time. There is far less student life than at a UK university, in particular far fewer student societies in which you can get involved and have pre-professional roles.

It's also a very different intellectual experience, with students doing much less independent reading and far more note-taking in lectures. Essays are written to a formula.

She didn’t get offered a place from Sorbonne which was the only place she wanted to go to but started History at Durham last month. The whole process was through Campus France and really bureaucratic & annoying as we paid £119 to register only to get rejected! Yes I am aware that uni experience is different in France I studied there myself but also the UK uni experience isn’t for everyone. For other people considering applying put more choices down for more chance.

I'm sorry your dd didn't get the Sorbonne but glad she has the place at Durham and hope she is enjoying student life so far.
