Any recommendations for quiet Postgrad accommodation please. Not catered.

Have to say I’m slightly freaking out. Dd likes square gardens , it’s £260 a week for 51 weeks. Which is 13k. Her student loan is going to be like 6k I think….she will get the minimum. So we have to find another 7k, plus living costs!

Are you sure on postgrad? The postgraduate loan is a flat rate, with no minimum or maximum.

Architecture has a special status and is classed as undergraduate for finance.

Ah. You learn something every day.

Ultimately, if you can’t afford that, you need to have that conversation with her. I’m not au fait with the finer details of Manchester’s accommodation, but I do know there are cheaper, en-suite options available.

She needs get a PT job and fund it herself.

This assumption by institutions and kids that parents will just automatically make up the shortfall is not good. They are adults and if choosing lengthy courses then they need to work out how that will happen with their own effort and work PT, work on holidays or delay going until they have saved.

Does it have to be university accommodation? Both DS1 (Bristol 2020) and DD (currently at Leeds) found their flat / houseshares through looking at e.g. spareroom.co.uk and just approaching local lettings agents; in DD's case, she was eventually offered a place in a houseshare with friends of a friend already at the university, which she took up, but at that point, she was already in negotiation over another room. Rents for both much less than university halls.
