Manchester Uni Accommodation advice

DS set to go to Manchester in the autumn. Needs to put down 5 accommodation choices. Will put 2 out of the 3 self catering halls in Fallowfield as Top 2 (the 3rd is an extra £2k a year so off the table). Stuck for what to put down for the other 3.

Wants self catering and ensuite. Two at Victoria Park look good on paper but what we've read online suggests that they are pretty dead social-wise. Can anyone confirm or deny that? Otherwise Whitworth Park sounds lively but no ensuites. Don't really want to go for anything over £200 pw so looking at the cheaper/mid range options. Also looking for flats/corridors of around 8-10 students as fear if only 3-4 it might be harder to make friends. We are going round in circles so any advice much appreciated!

Yes, its a stereotype but I’ve known a few flats where the luck of the draw puts a quiet kid in with some louder, sportier types or where there’s a number of more studious kids with someone who is disappointed not to be able to party more. Meeting a wider pool of people can be really helpful. Similarly, the students who are likely to want to join more clubs and societies often choose the halls nearer campus so they can get back into the union in the evenings without a rush hour bus to contend with. That road through Rushholme can be very slow at peak times, even with buses every 3 minutes.

I was in halls in Victoria Park about 12 years ago and stayed living round there all through uni.

Good points....super close to curry mile
An Asda in Levenshulme 10 minute walk away.
A lidl at the top of curry mile, next to a tesco and a weatherspoons,

Near to the hospital.

Can walk to uni in 10 mins.
Can get the 50 bus into central manc in 10 mins.
Can walk down to curry mile for loads more buses
Its a very convenient location for a student.
Loads of student houses in the area for 3rd and 4th year.
I made friends with everyone in my halls and it made no difference socially as we would just walk down to uni or get the bus into town!

Actually yes, good shout for Whitworth Park too. We called it the Toblerones but they were so convenient for uni and the students in them could pop back between lectures so saved a fortune on lunch etc. Plus, great if you want to join a lot of student societies etc as they are mostly held in the union.
Hulme Hall also the nearest Victoria Park hall (and a catered traditional non-ensuite) which I'd definitely recommend to anyone wanting to make friends and join in with university life. Plus, nearer to the city for those wanting part-time jobs.
