Positive listening

I thought was listening and affirming that you understood, keeping eye contact and making little umm & yes sounds plus asking questions which suggest you are listening

But I could be wrong

Also referred to as active and/or reflective listening.

Here are some things I have included in my recent K&U questions for a different NVQ course on this subject:

I should offer reassurances to the client that I am listening. This may be through nods, smiles, leaning forward, the occasional ?yes?, for example. I would also summarise the information at appropriate pauses in order to clarify what I had heard and so that the client knows I was listening.

By regularly clarifying and summarising the IAG worker demonstrates to their client that they are/were listening to the client and trying to understand the concerns put forward.

During an IAG consultation is important to reassure the client that you are listening and taking notice of what they are saying. Active listening can be demonstrated through subtle body language such as: nodding and smiling whilst they are talking, paraphrasing what they are saying and asking for more detail in some areas. Reflective listening can be demonstrated through regularly summaries, as described in the question above.

Glad it was useful.

I hate doing these NVQ things!
