How to arrange payments

Just wondering how parents spread their contribution to living costs?

My eldest daughter did nursing so her student loan plus bursary covered her accommodation costs and we gave her a set amount each month on top. Just looking now for my youngest daughter and we need to cover an accommodation shortfall of £1100 in September as soon as she starts, as the student loan alone doesn't cover it. So do we just deal separately with the accomodation payments three times a year. and only give her a set figure each month for living costs? Is this what most parents do?

I quite like the idea of her budgeting herself for all costs including accommodation but can't quite figure out how to work that!!

That’s generous. Dd is a mature student on full loan & she gets £500 bursary per year for being on full loan

We agreed the total amount I was going to contribute, i.e. top up to maximum loan.

Then worked out how much was needed to top up the loan he received each term to the halls fees & paid the required amount 3x a year when the fees were due.

The balance (worked out to be £180pm) I transferred in 9 instalments from September through to May.

To me, this is fair, transparent & helpful.

Mine got £1000 academic scholarship from uni too and I know her uni pays a £3000 scholarship to students on full loan.

My yp gets an award from her uni based on our postcode and that we earn under a certain amount. She got two thousand pounds this year and another thousand off her rent. We didn't know she could get this, the university let her know. It's worth seeing what the different universities offer

Definitely.
Best we came across was Queens, Belfast GB scholarship £3000 year 1 to all GB students (except med/dentist/vet)
