Best Postgraduate accommodation at Cambridge.

Hi. I’ve name changed for this. I feel I give far too much information out about myself sometimes.
Does anyone have any views on postgraduate accommodation at Cambridge? DC wouldn’t be hugely fussy about which college but this may influence his choice of college.

Anyone? I thought there were a few people on here with a great knowledge of this kind of thing.

Well there is obviously Hughes Hall, Wolfson and Darwin which are postgrad colleges. All other colleges will have their own arrangements for postgrad accommodation, which may be within the actual college sites or around the town. I know Homerton has a lot of postgrad housing behind it, almost like a mini village. I think this is because of proximity to the Education block where many will be taking postgrad qualifications. It's a bit out of the town centre, but so is other postgrad accommodation.

Thanks. I don’t think they’d want a postgrad only college but the information about Homerton is interesting. Is that where they put all the postgrad education students or do they go to other colleges too?

Or could anyone point me in the right direction where I could find out more?

Would a postgrad-only college not be quite good? Darwin is in a great location on the river.

I don't really know exactly who lives in the modern housing behind Homerton, but DC told me it was mainly for postgrad. Also PG or UG with children maybe? I think the university also owns various housing around Cambridge and a lot of this gets allocated to postgrads, especially ones from the very central colleges. It's not a bad thing. I think you would have to enquire, college by college, as to all the options. Sorry to not be more help.

You’ve been very helpful @yougi Thank you.

Two of our DC did postgraduate degrees at Cambridge and had nice college accommodation.

PGAccom · 22/02/2025 16:17

Are you able to say which college @Ceramiq?

John's and Jesus

PGAccom · 23/02/2025 09:21

Thank you. I’ll have a look at them.

Do gently encourage your DC to do some of their own research too.

PGAccom · 25/02/2025 10:19

Thanks for the advice @Hillarious but I don’t need to do that. They have researched it very extensively. However they don’t have access to this board in the way that I do and I am always amazed how much insight and knowledge people on here have. You may find this hard to believe but not everyone on here has dc who have been mollycoddled to within an inch of their existence. My Dc have been young carers and are very self motivated and independent
Have a nice day.

Big apologies, @PGAccom. Your message above did rather give the impression you were doing the legwork on this and my comments were a gentle suggestion. I'm sorry if it touched a nerve. I really didn't mean to.

Have a nice day yourself.

The choice of college may be guided by who is likely to be teaching your DS. Peterhouse has an active postgrad cohort who are all housed by the College, but as I say he should look at the academics on his course and narrow things down that way.
