Exeter hotel with parking?

We have a bit of a drive so planning to stay overnight before the Exeter offer day next month. Any recommendations of a hotel with parking in walking distance of the uni or near one of the park and rides please?

also - PSA for anyone in a similar position who might be travelling to Warwick. The university has some very reasonable conference style accommodation right there on campus which might be helpful - it doesn’t come up on sites like booking.com, one’s called Scarman and the other is Radcliffe iirc I googled Warwick conference B&B or similar.

We have stayed at Leonardo hotel in the centre. It has a big carpark directly opposite that you get for £10 for 24 hours if you stay at the hotel. It’s not really walking distance to the university but it’s a 5 min drive and there is parking on campus for the offer holder days. Last year we stayed overnight at The Leonardo and then drove the car to the university the morning of the offer holder day and parked there.

I stayed at the Telstar (albeit May 2018) with DS2 and DD in an ensuite 'suite' of a twin plus a single bedded room when DD attended an open day at the Streatham campus. Our rooms backed onto the car park (this wasnt an issue - the other guests were considerate, as the hotel requested), and it seems that there still is parking available.

We walked into the city centre in the evening and up to the campus in the morning, Exeter is very hilly, however, so if there is the option of a shuttle from St David's station, a few minutes' walk away, if I went again, I would be tempted to take it.

There’s a premier inn opposite aSt David’s train station and a couple of different long stay train carparks which are pay for on the ariva app. It’s 10min walk up the hill then to the campus

Lovecatsanddogs · 14/02/2025 21:55

Mill on the Exe has parking.

crumblingschools · 14/02/2025 22:03

Rougement and Southgate hotels both have parking

We stayed there when DD was looking at Warwick. It is very handy.

DD didn't like Warwick though.

pasinphoebe · 14/02/2025 22:12

holiday inn express off the motorway has its own car park and is opposite the park and ride :) Southgate has its own car park and is in town so could combine with restaurants shops etc and bus access.

Southernhay Gardens Premier inn is a 2min walk from the Magdalen St car park. Reasonably priced and very central. 8 to 10min drive to university.

There's also a shuttle bus.

The Rougemont hotel has parking and is 5 minutes walk to High Street, and 10 minutes walk to campus entrance.

Periodicnamechanger · 14/02/2025 23:13

You could book Princesshay Shopping Centre for 24 hours (£10) and get to see a bit of the town before walking up the hill. Then there’ll be no constraints on the hotel. We’re going to look round this half term then DS will make his own way there for Offer Day.

AnOldCynic · 15/02/2025 04:15

The White Hart hotel has parking to the rear, pay extra.

Ritasueandbobtoo9 · 15/02/2025 07:12

we stayed at Leonardo and used the nearby car park. It was very nice. Drove to the Uni next day. Great university.

Justlurkingmostly · 15/02/2025 08:01

Brilliant - thanks all, some great options here

I stayed at the White Heart. Parking charge was reasonable I think. 10 quid maybe.

RollerSkateLikePeggy · 15/02/2025 08:55

@Rollergirl11 Lol at the Leonardo not being walking distance. When I was at Exeter years ago almost no one had a car and so the walk into the town centre and back was a completely normal walk - struggling back up the hill with the Sainsbury's bags cutting into your wrists was a weekly event for most of us!

Rollergirl11 · 15/02/2025 09:06

@RollerSkateLikePeggy i say it’s not walking distance but it absolutely is because EVERYWHERE in Exeter is walking distance! We did it after the open day and it felt long after a busy day but was probs only 30-40 min walk. DD is at Exeter now and most people still don’t have cars; she does the walk from uni to town about 4 times a week and is totally normal as you say!
