Internship USA

My son has just received an offer for a summer internship in the USA, however he has to arrange his own visa. Anyone know the process for this, type of visa required and costs involved.

A tip. Once you know what visa is required, google and you may find someone has posted clear instructions on line. US visa applications can be an administrative nightmare. DS’ University were not overly helpful but luckily it was the same visa type as DD had needed for Camp America, who gave line by line instructions, and I was also able to find another US University who provided some very good on line guidance.

Note job offers have quite a short shelf life. Both mine had to get theirs reissued, so it is worth having everything ready before you start. They can be fussy about the passport photo. Also leave plenty of time. Visa interview slots are more difficult to get as summer approaches.

Both mine went in on J-1 visas.

And congratulations.

Just so you know, with the new Trump administration everything immigration related in terms of entering the country has gone into a huge "go slow". We are waiting for certificates of citizenship for our teens who became citizens in 2021 and the paper trail has literally just stopped. Instead of taking up to 3 months it looks like the process is going to at least double.
