My son is deciding between applying for either Kings College or Warwick for business. I was wondering please if anyone has experience of either of these two uni's - particularly interested in the social life as I am concerned he will feel isolated living in London especially as he's football mad. thank you

My Son is football mad and at Warwick. He loves it.

They show all this big matches on the screen in the students union and summer tournaments (on the massive cinema screen outside). They have interdepartmental / society football leagues as well as the main uni teams. There are also 5 aside leagues (just find 4 friends) and 5 aside games where can just rock up and play.

There’s also a Matchday society which goes on trips to live matches.

My ds graduated from Warwick 4 years ago. The business school has an excellent reputation. On campus accommodation is pretty reasonable, commuting in from leamington can be a pain (ds lived in coventry), excellent sports facilities, nice campus although can feel a little remote.

DD is at Warwick (economics) and I did a post grad at King’s and UCL.
We’re from London and DD is extrovert, sociable, clubber.

She wanted to live away from home and not commute. So Warwick it was. It’s campus the first year and afterwards they all tend to live in Leamington which is a lovely Regency town. She found the campus a bit limiting but has loved second year. She has her car with her too and a job. Sports societies are big and it’s quite a traditional experience. Everyone goes to the same pubs and clubs. They go to Birmingham for bigger nights out, this and Oxford are easy to get to. There is a lovely park in town for hanging out.

Kings and London universities are very international now compared with when I was there. Hoards of Chinese students so not sure how much mixing goes on. The students are there for the London experience. DD will probably do a post grad at LSE but I’m not sure how much fun she’d have had as an undergrad there.

DD has friends at UCL and has been to visit them and agrees there are hoards and hoards of Chinese students especially on the STEM courses and they tend to socialise together and not really mix with other students.

Her friends who are in halls with lots of Chinese students say that nobody on their corridor speaks to each other and just stay in their rooms. It's not ideal but having said that there are so many students that you can always find like minded people and have a decent social life.
