Ucas points & BTECS, bit confused

DD is doing a BTEC level 3 & looking at unis.

While some unis will say under entry requirements the number of ucas points needed then the required A Level & BTEC grades, most just give the required ucas points & A Level grades, no mention of BTEC. Am I correct in assuming that, providing her predicted grades give her enough Ucas points, she's OK to apply?

Sorry if I'm being dim!

If they say for example BBB at A level or 120 ucas points then they should take ucas points from a BTEC. If it says 120 points from 3 A levels then probably won't accept BTEC.

If your dc is uncertain whether their BTEC would be accepted they should email.

At the one I worked at until last year, we did have both an A level and a BTec tariff. Have examined the data over a 5 year window, we had to up the ucas points for BTec to higher than the A level one as the students just weren't coping, even with extra support. I'd suggest she emails the individual places she is interested in to find out.

Yes agree with others. If UCAS points are listed then it’s likely that Btecs are accepted. But it is worth checking.

Some unis do not accept Btecs for all courses and in those cases they will just list acceptable A level grades.

The more popular universities IME do not list UCAS points at all, they require specific A level grades. If your DD is applying to a uni that does list UCAS points, I would be surprised if Btecs were not acceptable tbh.

My son is doing 2 A levels and a BTEC.

For the courses my son is looking at most higher ranking universities top 30-40 seem to base offers on grades whilst the lower ranking ones seem to use UCAS points.

For ones I have looked at on their websites under entry requirements there is normally the requirements for BTECS.

For most of the courses my son is looking at a D at BTEC is the equivalent of an A/B at A level.

As has been said not all universities accept BTECS especially for some courses and some will want or prefer the BTEC in specific subjects or want A levels along side BTEC's
