Where do I find out about university courses?

When I was at school (80s!) there were books which told you which degree to do for different careers, and what the A level entry requirements were.

Can somebody point me in the direction of the modern internet version of these?

DS is in Y11, absolutely clear on the career he wants (immunological research) and really enjoyed his work experience in this field.. He has an idea of A levels (chemistry, biology and history) and a degree course (biomed science) - but would be interested in alternative degree courses.

He's in Y11 so hasn't had much exposure to university information yet, but is keen to do some investigating.

Many thanks

@IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads fwiw this describes DD2's path to date.

She did chemistry, biology and psychology for A level. Like your DS didn't want to do Maths, however she does have maths, statistics and further maths GCSEs, all at decent grades. She then did biomed at NTU for BSc, followed by Masters in infectious diseases at LSHTM. Did well in both, now considering PhDs. That MSc course is world renowned and you effectively choose a specialisation at that stage (she does vector-borne diseases). HTH

lots of good advice already, my youngest is looking at BioMed and we found a big variance at Unis about which ones were more maths intense than others (York I think). Some (Bristol springs to mind) are also very strong on Chemistry more than Biology

My (other) 2 peneth would be to get along to a few Open Days as soon as you can rather than wait for Yr13. Talk to folks, figure out which Unis are a good fit - and explore some of the wider course options, eg Manchester has many variants as do other unis.

Biomed at Newcastle had some maths modules, but it wasn't a maths intensive course.

I would start with the times good uni guide which comes out in feb. It has everything you need to then start narrowing down. What I would say is make sure once you do start to formulate a list to register asap for open days. The competitive ones fill up quickly. Good luck

Some unis do a microbiology with immunology degree, might be worth looking at those (slightly different slant so depends what he's specifically interested in)

Ditto NTU.
