Does anyone have any experience of this place? DD is drawn to it, but it is of course a pretty unknown quantity. Any experiences or thoughts welcome. Wondering if it is very tiny, or slightly arrogant and cultish like London Northeastern/NCH.

I read a bit about LIS a few months back. At that time an OP had a DD who was quite taken with it.

TBH I found it full of good intentions but lacking in tangibles. The staff seemed to convey a ‘we’re all in this together’ attitude that YP find enormously and justifiably enticing. However IIRC few had PhDs and I regard that as a red flag. The degree pathways are not traditional. Focus is on developing an enquiring mind (again IIRC).

That is hugely valuable. One reason many, including me, value liberal arts degrees, is largely for this skill. However I think the framework of a traditional academic discipline is almost a necessary structure for most apprentice learners. I also think that if enquiry is to be your focus, your guides should have passed through the rigours of defending a doctoral thesis.

OTOH I believe the earlier OP said LIS promotes good links with London employers. That’s something, but hardly unique.

I think LIS know how to appeal to idealistic YP. Not at all sure about anything else.
