Accepting a Degree Apprenticeship

I know I am totally getting ahead of myself but DS is applying for a few degree apprenticeships alongside University applications. The apprenticeships all have different timescales and the one he is most interested in has a deadline in April while others say they will make decisions by Christmas. If he is lucky enough to be offered a place on one does anyone know how quickly he has to accept it, and if he is then contractually committed in some way to taking it up? I realise the chances of getting one, let alone 2 are quite small but I like to be prepared!

An apprenticeship is a job, with training. I imagine, like any other job, the t&c's will include a notice period, e.g. 1 month or 3 months. If he is made an offer he will be expected to accept it quickly and sign the contract, but as it probably wouldn't start until next September there would be plenty of time before then for him to give notice and withdraw from the contract. Equally, the employer could give notice to withdraw the offer, e.g. if there is a recession or if their business restructures.

I don't have experience in degree apprenticeships specifically, but it's very unlikely there will be anything in the contract that would prevent him from signing it and then dropping out if he subsequently gets a better offer.

Obviously it's not something to be done carelessly, and he might burn bridges with the company if he wanted to work for them in the future, but the reality is that people can and do change their minds during the recruiting process and this is something that employers will factor into their process.
