Anyone got a Psychology applicant this year?

My DS has applied for Psychology, grades in hand and has one place so far, an unconditional offer, which while great, it would be good to hear from the rest of the UCAS choices.

I know this is a really competitive course and tons of kids apply, we were just hoping that with grades in hand it might shorten the process.

Anyone else?

Yes I’ve got one!

I've got one as well. They submitted their form a couple of weeks ago and have 4 offers so far.

That's great! - where are the offers from?

York and Exeter and then 2 others offering slightly lower grades. ( trying to maintain some semblance of anonymity!)
What about your DS?

York for the integrated MSci. That's it so far.

They'll probably just deal with all applications in a queue as they get them. They are unlikely to have extra computer systems that would enable them to identify applicants who already have results (that'd be a low priority for them to spend money doing). Don't worry, I'm sure the decisions will come soon.

By grades in hand, I guess you mean A'levels already done? If so, DS1 is in that boat.

His UCAS form went in on Friday and he had an offer first thing on Tuesday morning from a RG, despite not having the published grades! We're all still reeling a bit, but delighted of course! It was a wildcard application.

Psychology is an area of particular interest to him and he spends most of his his spare time since A levels listening to podcasts and reading around the subject, so that must have come across in his personal statement... He's still waiting to hear from the others, but he won't be turning down this particular bird in the hand!

Does anyone know what's next in these circumstances? Obviously it's a slightly different process from an offer based on predicted grades - more akin to an unconditional offer, but one he is definitely going to take. Any pointers would be very much appreciated!

@Sleepthief - does he qualify for a contextual offer?
One of DCs choices has reduced their published grades in the last couple of weeks.

MyHairIsCurly · 30/10/2024 19:33

@Sleepthief you can withdraw all other applications to other universities and firm the one he's had, if that is your son's choice, I think that's what you're asking? I'm not entirely sure.

He might, I suppose, but not very obviously. He went to a state school in inner London, but we are definitely not deprived; and he is dyslexic, but that's not particularly unusual. I guess he was part of the Covid cohort that did GCSEs in 2021 and A levels in '23, which might be taken into consideration... I'll ask if he has had any further correspondence that might shed a bit more light.

@MyHairIsCurly that's useful to know thanks. I guess I am asking what we need to do next. It's all still a bit new and somewhat surprising (albeit very exciting).

You don't need to do anything at the moment unless asked for something, usually. The college might ask for certificates to be forwarded, if they've not already been sent. On the offer my son got, he had to sign a "no outstanding convictions" form (!!) but that was it. They aren't ready for accommodation applications til after January, but that might vary from place to place too.
