I'm also interested in how student can balance a massive passion with also being realistic about ever making a living.
Can't answer this fully yet but DD, newly in Y2 is loving studying her subject (English Lit) that she has a passion for but also doing in her free time a pastime (theatre production) she also has an equal passion for.
DD is at a Uni that often we avoid talking about in conversation, when people ask where she is and we avoid but when they then insist, they go 'wow'. Then when they find out she is studying English Lit they go silent like being in world top three Uni 'but' for that subject is deathnell.
DD has produced a range of shows, acted, written, trodden the same boards as some amazing people before her.
She tutored some students through their GCSEs when she was in lower sixth and got amazing results including for those with dyslexia diagnosis, she was so passionate about the subject she refused to think there were barriers to anyone being able to access the best grades.
I put up with the opinon of STEM advotoees a lot about how their subjects are the best and the backbone of the economy. However I go to the theate A LOT. I know a lot gets spent in theatre and film, I remember seeing some research paper about the contribution to the economy and it is HUGE. Some people think the only money is in finance and investment but some of those top bankers I know have boxes in some of the top theatres.
All I need to know is DD is happy, thriving, a good fit for her Uni, is taking every opportunity and now looking at internships and work experience opportunities in Drama, theatre production and whatever the outcome she has will have enjoyed the journey. It isn't always about the destination.
