Exeter Open Day

Morning! DS and I have dropped the ball between us on the open day chaos and haven't booked Exeter Open Day for 5th October and is now full. We can't go on 26th Oct as away as half term.

Shall we risk and drop in anyway? For those who went earlier do you need a QR code? We've been to 4 so far and onmy shown a code twice, once to get into Warwick although could have walked around anyway, and once to get into a college . Am sure they will have loads drop out as well. We're huge rule followers and very risk averse so not sure DS will go anyway but do feel like being a little adventurous and turning up.

You could have a walk around campus I'm sure. But you may not be allowed to attend the talks without being booked onto them, especially the popular ones that get booked up. My son went to Exeter & I remember some of the subject talks got booked up in advance but can't remember if there was a QR code, sorry.

When my DD went there was plenty of room at the subject talks - but depends on the subject I guess! I can't recall if anyone checked if she was registered.

When we went to Exeter they checked the QR codes for the subject talk (I think) but just before it started they let parents and anyone else in

Yes you will be fine, lots of people who book won’t attend in the end. Enjoy.

When we went to Exeter earlier this year two things happened:

  • I had booked one twin and when I went to booked the other it was full so I contacted them and they said it was fine to bring the other twin too to look around campus.
  • We had a code...but I was following the people infront of me going up a steep hill and they went left so so did I - and I accidentally missed the signin station and no one chased me down to signin and I was too lazy to go back down the hill to signin.
  • One twin went to a Liberal Arts talk and there was plenty of room and no checking of codes.
  • The other twin went to Business and it was packed and only students and not parents could go in but from memory no code was checked there either.

My DC went to Exeter and we had to show the QR code just to get on the special park and ride bus which went direct to the Uni. Everything else was open access - I’m sure people who’ve booked drop out on the day. You don’t have to book a tour as they give out maps so you can look around on your own and then drop in for the subject talk. If it happens to be full you can still tour the department and talk to lecturers.

Another time I was there visiting with my other DC and it happened to be an open day- great vibe, everyone was so welcoming with students around answering any questions - no checks.

we came via train so maybe that's why we could miss the code scanner
