DD is in year 13 so sitting A levels and applying for uni in 2025.

We are planning to go to my home country in the summer 2025, potentially a month. What time does she need to be in the UK for her results and joining university?

A level results next year should be out on Thursday august 14. Then Uni will actually start about a month later, though start dates do vary.

Thanks; do you have to be in the UK for university enrolment or anything over the summer? Or you do things online?

And do you need to collect A level results in person?

You don't need to be in the U.K. To collect results, the school will normally let you nominate someone else to collect them and they will be sent to your house a couple of days after results day if you don't collect them.
However, if they have an issue on the day and don't get the results to get into their firm and insurance you will need to be at a computer and phone to look for clearing spaces (schools often help with this so you will be disadvantaged not being in the school in this instance).
If they get into their first choice then you will need to be beat a computer to fill out forms etc pretty soon after results day. If they get second choice, it is more critical to have a computer, as they will need to sort accommodation out which sometimes is more limited with the insurance place.
Good luck with it all

@Autumni

If she is your only DD could you not go after exams and be back before results day. That will still allow you to go for a month.

I would strongly recommend going after contingency day (end of June) and being back in time for results day (this would give you a six week period).
Whether you have to collect the results in person depends on your sixth form/college but it is MUCH easier to be in the country if you have to deal with clearing/any issues - for example with time differences, or wanting to go to a clearing visit if you get a place through there. Every year we see students trying to sort results day out from abroad and it adds so many layers of unnecessary stress

I agree with this.

If all has gone well then no, you don't need to be in the UK. If you need to sort our re-marks etc it's far easier to do this at home. The stress of this would ruin the end of a holiday too!

Thank you all. DD2 doesn’t finish until mid of July. I will speak to DD1 if she wants to be in the UK to collect results in person.

It might feel 'much easier' to be in the country but in fact, nothing associated with results, confirming offers, clearing and accommodation really needs you to be anywhere in person.

Good internet/phone access, with somewhere to spread out some paper to keep track is the absolute most you need

I would plan to be at the beach that day, but at a pinch an internet cafe will have everything the candidate really needs.

My parents were living around for my A level years, we got everything sorted by phone. Online access makes it all even more easy.

is all you really need.

FinallyHere · 23/09/2024 14:38

Sorry posted before saying that I would in advance make sure that the urls are known and the candidate has their log in ids and passwords all to hand. Otherwise, sorted

It's the loveliest time for a family holiday, before everything changes. Enjoy

Both my DC were travelling with friends on results day. They didn’t plan to do clearing as they were confident in their insurance choice.

They are all moving to halls in mid-Sept, no need to be present sooner.

That’s great to hear. 14th of August is a bit early for us to return
