Open days

Just wondering, do Uni’s usually release more open days throughout Autumn or are the ones on their websites it for the year and there are no more? We’re finding that they all clash

No that’s usually it. There’s summer dates too. We did some summer yr 12 and autumn yr 13. If you can’t make official open days lots offer tours you can book on at other times. If they get offers there’s offer days spring yr 13.

There are only so many Saturdays (and Open Days are usually, but not always, on a Saturday) that are realistically available and so there are lots of potential clashes. This is why it is best to try and do some Open Days in Y12 (autumn and/or summer) to take the load off autumn Y13.

Some students have Saturday work shifts, and only limited holiday allowance, and that can be an issue too. So the PP's advice that Open Days are not the only way to get a feel for a university is very helpful. Term-time informal visits, booked tours, chat with existing students (via uni website), department webinars with admission tutors are all ways in which info can be gathered.

Only speaking from my own experience, but I agree with PPs. DC found it useful to visit cities even outside of official open days. That was generally enough to produce a shortlist, and then Offer Holder days helped with their final decisions.

We used to o a lot more offer holder and interview days on Wednesday afternoons as we don’t schedule teaching then and students can be more available to assist. But schools have been increasingly reluctant (and sometimes downright obstructive) in releasing their pupils to visit.
