I saw this locally. Hoping it might help some of you plan ahead.

Yes it is!

Some of the students returning abroad, of course, are unable to take their equipment back home.

We had a parent at my school who was a student house landlord. She gave us loads of ‘stuff’ every year as they cleared the houses. She gave us pans for out mud kitchen which were better brands than I was using at home! 😀

At that time, she used to hire a skip to dispose of the leftovers. This is so much better!

Or use charity shops.

I am a landlord and very used to “tenant booty”. Indeed DS benefited greatly this summer when his return to the UK coincided with a tenant returning to Australia.

There is no need for students, tenants, or landlords to put things in a skip. Just take things to a charity shop. Some will take, indeed collect, furniture and electrical items. And frugal new students should give charity shops a trawl before heading off to IKEA. They could well end up with things that are both nicer and cheaper.

I normally let unfurnished, and am sometimes amused at the idea that one set of tenants might have the BHF take away their furniture and the next set pay BHF to bring it back.

My own DC’s are charity shop scouts!

They have had some great purchases for their kitchens including top brands, especially when the charity shop is in quite a select area of the city. Stockbridge in Edinburgh always had great finds.
